Even though it's only been 4 days since our disappointing news, I have learned a couple life lessons in a little over 96 hours. I'll be brief as I share with you what the Lord is showing and teaching me:
#1 God's timing is, indeed, perfect. Since Paul and I have been in ministry for almost 12 years, I know I've said this phrase hundreds of times to people. Little did I know that it's so hard to accept God's timing sometimes. I struggled with the fact we are giving an orphan a family and obeying the call to our family, so why shouldn't it happen right away. But, obviously, God's time table doesn't match up with mine "God's thoughts are not our thoughts, God's ways are not our ways"--and I had a difficult time accepting that. I now can say that I see things from a different perspective which brings me to my next life lesson...
#2 I am selfish in thinking that God is only concerned about our family in this adoption process. I didn't understand why he would not allow us to bring Levi home ASAP. But now, thanks to many people praying for our family, I can see things differently. This is what I mean:
What if, for instance, God is using this search for the birth mother because she is ill or in trouble. What if because of finding her she can get help. What if she is at the end of her rope and has prayed for God to show Himself to her, and He is using this search. I found myself being VERY narrow-minded in thinking this was all about our family. Knowing that God loves Levi's birth mother just as much as He loves me, makes it easier to trust in Him as He's drawing us both to Himself.
God is for us. God is for our family. God is for what we're doing. I can trust that. A very special friend, Dee-dee, gave us the following verse on Wednesday after we found out. It is absolutely perfect, and I'm praying that it's true for us, even as we are still waiting..."They [the righteous] do not fear bad news; they CONFIDENTLY trust the Lord to care for them." How cool is that!!
God is good and He is for us! I just have to trust that--confidently trust that! I love this piece of modern art that's titled, "God is In Control:Romans 8:28."
So, I'd love for you to tell me what God has been teaching you these past few months. I figured that we can all be encouraged by God working in our lives. Just post a comment (publicly or anonymously) and share what you've been learning...can't wait!!
