Oops...

Even though things have been a little on the crazy side, there are a few things we've learned that we'd love to pass on...parenting advice that shouldn't have to be given, but just so I can rest easy knowing I've done my part!!! And all parties have not been seriously injured in the learning of these lessons...

1. Don't count on the grippies from the bottom of Old Navy socks to keep Ethiopian children from falling over backwards when walking.

2. Do not rearrange the freezer with little Ethiopian heads that can get in the way of dropping frozen pizzas.

3. Not a great idea to use the vaccuum nozzle to remove leaves from an afro.

4. In teaching the "No!" principle, mix up the ways of saying it (i.e. "let's not", "don't please", "we don't do that"), or they may just look at you, point their finger at your face, and say "NO!" when you ask them to do something.

5. Children Safety Gates might be a good idea when playing on the back porch...(it's only a 2 foot fall, in case you're wondering)

6. Just because your first 2 children love to be scared...don't assume that your 3rd one finds it fun.

So, although we're not "Dr. Spock's-in-the-making", we are grateful for a God who loves us, takes care of us and those we parent, and watches over us and our kids...even when we make stupid mistakes. BTW, I'm sure there are more examples, but I can't seem to recall them at the moment.

Hoping you have a great & safe day,

Mandy

  2. I will elaborate on the freezer one. You also should not use the vacuum to dust your collection of Willow Tree Angels while there is an Ethiopian plasterd to your leg. The angels do not fly gently from 6.5 feet in the air and they DO hurt little heads when they land. Don't feel bad. We've all done it. :)
